REVIEWS

  • “The men beat back despair with humor, and the audience spent most of the show shaking with laughter, the rest, transfixed.”

    East Bay Express

COMMENTS

  • “Seldom does one encounter such professionalism, joie de vivre, and grace under fire as when Gemma is in charge of a production.”

Robert Hamm, Cast member; Theatre professional (Actor: AEA; Playwright: Dramatist’s Guild)

ABOUT

An Irishman, an Englishman, and an American held hostage in a cell in Lebanon, are forced to confront themselves and their humanity. In their confinement, the men defy fear and death by the force of their laughter, their crazy humor and the power of the imagination.

In 1985, an Irishman, Brian Keenan, was kidnapped by Shi’ite militiamen and held hostage in Beirut for four and a half years. For much of the time he was alone, and later shared a cell with an Englishman (John McCarthy), and an American (Terry Anderson). After his release, Keenan wrote An Evil Cradling, which became the basis for Frank McGuinness’ Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me.
